RSS/Atom Feeds and Subscription

How do you view blogs? I have been using RSS feeds for some time now and find it an excellent way of keeping up with who has updated thier blog. It enables me to save time surfing and focus on those blogs which have been updated. indeed, I often overlook some very good sites that do not posess feeds because I simply forget them.

I have also used a number of feed readers, but at present I use the Sage plug-in for the wonderful Firefox browser. It seems to work well and allows me to browse directly to sites that have changed.

Do you use feeds? Which reader do you use? Do you keep up with blogs without feeds?

Please leave your comment on this topic - I am off to Vienna today and Paris on Friday (I know it is a hard life) - if I have no internet for the next couple of days, I will get back to you over the weekend :-) .

Enjoy your quick trip. It sounds fabulous!

Yes, I use an RSS feeder. I use bloglines.com but I also view about 3-4 sites the old fashioned way because they do not have RSS feeds - or their feeds just never update with bloglines. I like them so much, they’re listed on my links across the header of firefox. Since I already use firefox, I’ve been considering the switch to their RSS feeder - sounds like you like it? I don’t think I could keep up with blogs without my RSS feeder. I usually watch anywhere from 100 to 150 - but I try to keep my list closer to 100 so that I don’t spend all of my free on the computer.

I used Thunderbird’s News & Blogs reader to subscribe to RSS and Atom Feeds. I have quite a lot of photo blogs that I watch (although not quite 100!), so keeping up with them is quite a task and feeds make it alot easier. I usually only look once at sites that do not have feeds because I can’t remember or afford the extra time to check to see if they’ve updated.

I am more faithful in my visits to sites that have RSS feeds and it sure makes keeping up with a site far easier.

I’m a huge fan of RSS feeds. I think I mentioned in an earlier reply that I have over 150 photoblogs in my list. I also check them all daily. This would otherwise be impossible.

If a site doesn’t have an RSS feed, I put it in a special folder in my browser. I’ll have to admit that I often forget about them and rarely return.

I use FeedDemon Feedburner and very rarely look at blogs, of any kind, that don’t have an RSS/Atom feed. Not sure how many photoblogs I have in my list though.

I recently started using an RSS reader and it makes keeping up with blogs so much easier! I use RSSReader, but I might have a look at your sage plug in, as I too use firefox and am not convinced RSSReader is that good.

I must admit now that I have this I do tend to lose track of blogs I vistied before but can’t get to work on the reader… i do bookmark them and try to look in occasionally, but the reader list i have is ever growing, and it is hard to keep up with that all the time anyway!

Looksw like most folk use a feed reader to navigate their blogs - I thought that was probably the case.

I use Feedreader and pretty much don’t get back to blogs that don’t support RSS or Atom anymore. I like the task tray notification as soon as a blog is updated and the sense that I’m getting an almost real-time snapshot of people’s daily lives in different parts of the world.

It is good to see when stuff is posted Judy, though my blogs are set to auto post at 05:00 UK time each day regardless of what I am doing. Not sure how I setled onthat as a time, but I tend to use the on day later than previous post function. So I am usually in bed when my photos appear! :-)

I use RSS Bandit. Without it, I just wouldn’t be able to keep tags on all my favourite sites.

After reading these I tried Sage (plugin for Firefox) and I LOVE IT! No more scrolling through bookmarks and checking to see if the site has been updated. Also added an RSS feed to my site ;)

I guess I am very old fashioned when it comes to viewing blogs. I have a folder with all my favorite places, and go through the list each morning. Then I connect with other bloggers by comments they make on my ‘favorite’ list. Works for me. :O)
